General
Percentage Gain/Loss Calculator
Convert entry and exit into percent and dollar P&L.
How the calculation works
Percent change scales the move by entry price: (exit − entry) ÷ entry × 100. Dollar change multiplies the same price difference by share count. Together they show both relative and absolute impact of a move from a chosen entry to exit.
Formula & example
% change = (exit − entry) ÷ entry × 100; $ change = (exit − entry) × shares
Buy at $40, sell at $46, 100 shares → +15% and +$600.
Why use this calculator
Percent alone can mislead on small positions; dollars alone hide how large the move was. Showing both prevents mixing up a big percent on tiny size with a small percent on large size.
When to use it
Use for quick what-if checks on a name you already understand — before opening a fuller P&L ticket with fees.
Tips for accurate results
- Negative percent means a loss from entry.
- Fees are ignored here — see Stock P&L for commissions.
FAQ
Does this include dividends or fees?
